Former Captain for the Blackstars of Ghana, Stephen Tonaldo Appiah has revealed he was heart broken during Ghana exit from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

According to the Former Ghanaian International He was excited the World Cup in South Africa 2010 was hosted for the first time on African soil historically but Ghana lost to Uruguay was a painful one. He said “I was very happy an African country hosted the world cup for the first time on African soil but our lost to Uruguay was so painful” Stephen Appiah Told Max Tv on Blackstars Classics show

The former Udinese midfielder cleared the air on the incident of Luiz Suarez hand ball which resulted into Penalty over who takes the penalty between himself and Asamoah Gyan. He said “That will Never happen in the team during our time that if I pick up a ball for a penalty awarded in favour of Ghana and Gyan will come for the ball from me. People didn’t get the real understanding to that scene when the referee awarded us a penalty in that game , I was telling Asamoah Gyan that we should take the ball quickly to the centre half for them to pass the ball for the game to restart again because I saw the Assistant Referee pointing his flag to the centre for a goal”

The former Cesena midfielder also revealed what transpired to their Victory in the first World cup tournament Ghana participated in Germany 2006 against the United States of America. He said “We were so upset with USA because their coach Bruce disrescted us(Ghana) saying if any country will score USA it shouldn’t be Ghana . We motivated ourselves that we can do it. When the penalty came there was pressure on me but I still hit it at the back of the net” said Ex Ghana Star Stephen Appiah.

Stephen Tonaldo Appiah also stated how Ghana is being loved by other countries during tournaments. He said “Ghana have that support and love of winning fans from other countries during tournaments”

He added that after the USA game they received alot of Congratulation calls full of happiness back home in Ghana . He said “We were getting phone calls from friends and family how happy they were after the game”

The 2006 World Cup was held in Germany. It was the first World Cup for which the previous winner had to qualify; the host nation(s) continue to receive an automatic berth. Four African teams also made their debut in the world cup finals: Togo, Ivory Coast, Angola and Ghana who impressively made it to last 16 by beating the Czech Republic, third ranked in the world, along with the United States before losing to the defending champions Brazil 0–3. The 2010 World Cup also was held in South Africa. It was the first cup hosted on African soil, and the cup was won by Spain.
