Ukraine Book Their Place In The Quarter-Finals Of EURO 2020 After A 2-1 Victory Over Sweden In Extra Time


After a 1-1 at half time, the game endured a ding-dong affair in the second period as both teams looked for the match winner.

The game eventually travelled to extra time of which Ukraine won it at the stroke of penalty shoot outs.

It appeared to be heading into penalties, but extra-time substitute Artem Dovbyk popped up in added time at the extra-time to head home Ukraine into the lead and there wasn’t enough time left on the clock for Sweden to respond.

There wasn’t an awful lot of action in extra-time, after Marcus Danielson who was shown a straight red for a dangerous challenge, so Sweden just sat back and defended, but just couldn’t see it out.

What a ball it was from Olekzander Zinchenko, the Manchester City defender’s assist led to the match winner for Andriy Shevchenko’s side. He perfectly placed onto the head of Dovbyk, who made mistakes with the finish.

Ukraine will be pleased that they have clinched the win without having to go to penalties and they will now face England in the quarter-finals which takes place in Rome on Saturday.
